schools4schools is a new charity for UK schools to sponsor schools in the developing world |
WHYSince the recent earthquake struck Pakistan, the Pakistani government estimate that 73,000 people have been killed, and over 3 million are homeless. Over 6,000 schools have also been destroyed. When a child’s life, family and home have been devastated, schools can provide their only hope and security. “We are all helpless in the face of this massive destruction. I have interviewed women who have seen their children dying in front of them. The children are still there in the rubbles of school buildings. Eleven children died in the school in Zameeri and four in Bararkot. Thank god all the children survived in the schools in Takia Doga and Batang. Some of the schools are cracked and cannot be used. The teachers want to start the schools in tents. We must try to bring these schools and communities back to life.” Uzma Altaf, Education Co-ordinator, LFL
