schools4schools is a new charity for UK schools
to sponsor schools in the developing world

HOW

Children in a make-shift school
in a refugee camp in Muzaffarabad.

In order to give help as efficiently and economically as possible, schools4schools is using well regarded independent non governmental organisations (NGOs) and charities known to us already working on the ground in Pakistan to identify suitable schools for sponsorship and to distribute the money; such as Learning for Life and The Friends of the Citizens’ Foundation. LFL has lost 19 schools in the earthquake and five have been partially destroyed. They intend to rebuild those 24 and build 16 new ones in Balakot, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad. TCF build their schools in clusters of three – two 180 pupil primary schools and one 360 pupil secondary school. They intend to build nine schools in the Muzaffarabad region. The schools will built as earthquake proof as possible.

Schools4schools will oversee links between the twinned schools in Pakistan and Britain, helping the children to keep in touch with each other, by email, where possible, letters or photographs, as well as checking the reconstruction and how your money is being spent. We also oversee donations, and the donation of any equipment, such as text books or computers, where needed. In the future we hope it will be possible to arrange for school leavers to go out and help teach in their twin schools on their gap year, where appropriate.

The money has to come from you. We need schools in the developing world to raise money to sponsor their school. To get ideas on school fund-raising activities, please contact hettie.reid@schools4schools.org.uk
